One Day in Pittsburg
If your time is short in our sweet little town, let us suggest a few "must see" things to do while you are here.

We do hope you will stay for more than just one day in Pittsburg, but if your time doesn't allow for more than one day, let us suggest a few "must see" places to spend your time. We have choices ranging from trying some of our world famous Pittsburg Hot Links to seeing our acclaimed first flying machine and the last Shelby car ever purchased by Carroll Shelby himself at the Texas Rural Heritage Museum. Check out our sugggested site seeing list below and pick out a few things that will fit your time and interests. If you can't see them all one day then you have to come back to check out a few more "must sees" on our list.

If you don't have but one day in Pittsburg our Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum is a "must see". Enjoy a guided tour of the museum as you hear the fantastic story of the Ezekiel Airship, which we claim as one of the very first flying machines. You'll also see the last Shelby car purchased by famed, Carroll Shelby, who claimed Pittsburg as home, and so much more. And with a ticket to the Northeast Texas Rural Heritage you will also see the historic Farmstead museum. Museum Hours are: Thursday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Friday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Saturday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The next thing you should do is head over to Efurd Orchards and try your hand at picking some fresh strawberries or blueberries if you are here in the spring. And if it's summer, you'll want to buy a basket of locally grown peaches and eat some of Efurd's homemade seasonal peach ice cream. If you are in the fall, go check out their huge selection of pumpkins. They also carry other locally grown farmers market produce, canned jellies, and more! Efurd Orchard is typically closed from November to April.

Witness Park and Prayer Tower is the focal point of our Historic Main Street. The Tower is made of Indiana limestone with a Vermont slate roof. The tower is 75-foot tall and features four Paccard bells from France. The Prayer Tower was dedicated to the city April 1992. It is surrounded with beautiful landscaping, a gurgling fountain and a life-size bronze stature depicting Jesus washing Peter's feet. Inside the Prayer Tower is a small chapel surrounded by four beautiful stained glass windows depict various scenes of the life of Jesus. We hope you will enjoy hearing the Prayer Tower bells chime every hour on the hour as you stroll the streets of Pittsburg shopping.

Pittsburg is an amazing town for experiencing outdoor activities. But, if you only have one day, and you love nature and being outdoors, let us suggest Lake Bob Sandlin State Park. Lake Bob Sandlin is one of Texas's Best Kept Secrets. This lakeside park offers fun on water and land. Swim, fish, paddle and boat on the 9,000-acre lake. Or picnic, hike the 3.3 mile hiking trail, camp, geocache, mountain bike and nature watch under the trees. Visit in autumn to see spectacular fall foliage. The park loans fishing poles and rents kayaks for use in the park and you do not need a fishing license to fish from shore or pier in a state park (you will need a license to fish from a boat). While dad and the kids are hiking and fishing, Mom and browse the gift shop at the front office to find the perfect souvenir. The gift shop has clothes, snacks and souvenirs for all ages.

If you are in town and didn’t bring any fishing gear, no worries, you can still go home with a cooler full of fresh fish. Just call Bubba Gentry Fishing. Bubba Gentry will make sure you have a good time, make memories, and catch plenty of fish. Bubba Gentry offers guide service on several lakes around East Texas but mainly Cypress Springs and Lake Bob Sandlin. Bubby competes on a national level with some of the best crappie anglers in the USA. As his slogan goes, “Our fish are crappie, but our service ain’t!”

If you don't have time to stop and walk around our lovely Main Street, and you are just passing through, then you will be passing right by Southern Sisters Junktion on Hwy 271 North. This shop is filled with a large number of booths that specialize in everything from home decor to that one of kind piece of furniture you have been looking for.
